Eric T. Halsey

Eric T. Halsey is a Partner at Grossman Yaffa Cohen and an accomplished trial lawyer whose practice focuses on representing individuals and families affected by medical malpractice, catastrophic injury and wrongful death.

Eric has substantial experience litigating complex cases involving failures to diagnose, delayed treatment, surgical negligence, preventable medical complications and other departures from accepted standards of care. His work has addressed significant healthcare issues involving sepsis, stroke, quadreplegia, women’s health, congenital abnormalities and emerging questions surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Before joining Grossman Yaffa Cohen, Eric handled a broad range of tort litigation, including medical malpractice, wrongful death, trucking accidents, negligent security, premises liability, cruise-line negligence and motor-vehicle accidents. He also worked as a trial lawyer for a highly regarded South Florida firm defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice matters. That experience gives him valuable insight into how healthcare providers, insurance companies and defense counsel investigate, evaluate and defend complex claims. Today, he uses that perspective to anticipate defense strategies and build stronger cases for injured patients and their families.

Eric has successfully litigated and tried medical malpractice, trucking and negligent security cases throughout Florida. In 2013, he served as second chair in a Central Florida trucking-negligence trial involving a driver who lost his left leg following a collision with a tractor-trailer. The jury returned a verdict of more than $7.3 million. Since he started at Grossman Yaffa Cohen in 2015, Eric has been directly involved in cases totaling over $150 million in settlements, including five cases which resolved for over $15 million.

Eric approaches every case with honesty, careful preparation and a commitment to ensuring that his clients understand both the strengths and challenges of their claims. His guiding principle is simple: always tell clients the truth. He recognizes that clients often come to the firm during some of the most difficult periods of their lives and works to provide them with direct guidance, responsive communication and determined advocacy.
