Ryan Yaffa is a trial lawyer with Grossman Yaffa Cohen who represents individuals and families in complex, high-stakes civil disputes. His practice focuses on catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, professional malpractice, product liability, class actions, multidistrict litigation (MDL), and other sophisticated civil matters. Ryan has represented clients through every stage of litigation in both state and federal courts.
Ryan has played an integral role in several of Florida’s most significant and widely publicized cases, including the litigation arising from the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the 2021 collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside. He has also represented clients in nationally recognized product liability and consumer litigation, including cases involving contaminated eye drops, defective products, and multidistrict litigation against major corporate defendants. His experience includes complex, multi-party matters involving catastrophic events, sophisticated medical and scientific issues, and claims that have drawn national attention.
In addition to his work on these landmark matters, Ryan has helped secure meaningful results for clients in medical malpractice, product liability, and catastrophic injury cases He represents individuals and families whose lives have been forever changed by the negligence of healthcare providers, manufacturers, corporations, and other institutions. Ryan is dedicated to holding those responsible fully accountable, obtaining justice for his clients, and helping drive systemic changes that make communities safer and reduce the likelihood of similar tragedies.
Recently, Ryan was part of the trial team that obtained a $1.2 million wrongful death medical malpractice verdict, which was later affirmed by Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal, preserving the family’s recovery after years of litigation. Beyond the significance of the result, the experience was particularly meaningful because the case was tried alongside his father and two uncles—a rare and invaluable opportunity. As a member of a family with a longstanding commitment to trial advocacy and service, Ryan has been immersed in the practice of law from an early age, an upbringing that has profoundly shaped his values, his approach to client advocacy, and his career.
Ryan also contributes to the firm’s thought leadership initiatives, providing insights on developments in medical malpractice, product liability, consumer protection, and other issues affecting plaintiffs’ rights.
Before joining Grossman Yaffa Cohen, Ryan served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Edwin G. Torres of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, where he gained experience across a broad range of civil and criminal matters. While attending the University of Miami School of Law, he represented underserved investors through the University’s Investor Rights Clinic, advocating on their behalf in securities arbitration proceedings before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Prior to beginning his legal career, Ryan interned with DRW Holdings, LLC, where he analyzed financial markets and market trends as a trading analyst. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance, cum laude, from Florida State University and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.
Ryan combines meticulous preparation with a practical, client-focused approach to every case. He is dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives while pursuing accountability and justice for those harmed by negligence.
